EAST HANTS: Enfield RCMP received 166 complaints between Oct. 27 and Nov. 10.
A caller from Milford Station reported someone keeps tampering with his Mazda on Oct. 28 at 10:32 a.m. Minor damage was sustained in the incident.
Nine Mile River firefighters, RCMP, and EHS responded to a single-vehicle collision on Oct. 28 at 5:38 p.m., along Highway 14 in Nine Mile River. Police say a vehicle left the road after blowing a left rear tire and landing in a ditch. The lone occupant of the vehicle was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
Police responded to a report of a gas-and-go at the Petro-Canada in Elmsdale on Oct. 28, at 5:45 p.m. The complainant told police a driver left the station without paying for $125 in gas. The lone employee working was unable to provide a description of the vehicle.
RCMP say no charges will be laid in a two-vehicle collision in front of the Enfield Esso on Highway 2 in Enfield on Oct. 28 at 11:21 p.m. Police say the 36-year-old woman driver of a pickup truck hit a small car, with two occupants a 57-year-old man and his daughter. Officers report the two that were hit suffered minor injuries. EHS and Enfield Fire attended the scene.
Police received a report of mischief on Thomas Street in Enfield on Oct. 29, at 1:30 a.m. A caller reported their garbage bin was on fire. Firefighters from Enfield attended and extinguished the flames. Officers don’t know the cause of the fire. Police also report a civic sign was stolen on the street.
A 52-year-old Nine Mile River man was arrested for damage to property after an incident on Oct. 29 at 8:54 a.m. The man is alleged to have smashed the windshield out of a car located at a residence on Old Enfield Road in Enfield.
In an update to a story on page 16 of the Nov. 2 issue of The Weekly Press, police say a 28-year-old Lantz man has been charged with driving while disqualified for his role in a two-vehicle head-on collision in Upper Nine Mile River on Oct. 29. Enfield RCMP spokesman Const. Les Kakonyi said a black Saturn driven by the man drove over the center line on Highway 14 and directly into a Pontiac G6 with two people—a 55-year-old man and 15-year-old female, both from Rawdon Gold Mines— inside that was travelling in the opposite direction. The injuries sustained by those involved were non-life-threatening. The man was also on probation for a previous offence.
The two-vehicle mishap occurred at 5393 Highway 14 in Upper Nine Mile River, and was called in to 911 at 10:20 p.m. “There might be future charges of impaired driving or impaired operation,” Const. Kakonyi said. The matter remains under investigation by police.
A complainant told police the front door window had been smashed and business broken into on Oct. 30 at 1:49 p.m. The break-and-enter at the real estate office on Highway 214 in Elmsdale is believed to have occurred between Oct. 26 and 30. Entry was gained, but nothing of value was believed to be missing.
A vehicle sustained more than $1,000 in damages as a result of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 2 in Elmsdale on Oct. 31 at 6:57 a.m.
A caller reported to police that her front window had just been egged by two young boys they saw running from the scene on Oct. 31, at 8:30 p.m.
Police received a report of mischief from Logan Drive in Lantz on Nov. 1, at 2:33 a.m. The caller told police several things were on fire in the middle of the road, including a bike which was soaked in gas. The Lantz Fire Department was requested to the scene.
A damaged mailbox was reported to police from a residence in Upper Kennetcook on Nov. 1, at 9:42 p.m.
A 14-year-old female was arrested following an incident at Hants East Rural High School in Milford on Nov. 2 at 10:05 a.m. Police arrested the girl for causing a disturbance and mischief at the school. She was later released to her guardian on a promise to appear.
Police are looking into a theft complaint from a worksite trailer at the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz on Nov. 2, at 12:48 p.m. The woman caller informed police her wallet and cell phone were missing from her lunch bag that was left in the site’s unlocked trailer.
A 36-year-old Kennetcook man suffered no injuries following a harrowing single-vehicle collision along Finley Road on Nov. 2, at 11:20 p.m. The car the man was driving struck a power pole. EHS, Kennetcook, and Noel Fire attended the scene.
A 22-year-old Truro man was arrested following a fatal single-vehicle rollover on Highway 14 in Upper Nine Mile River on Nov. 5, at 6:33 a.m. He was arrested for impaired driving causing death. Const. Les Kakonyi said that doesn’t mean he will be charged. A charge would be based on lab tests that aren’t back yet. “The man’s injuries made it impossible to give him the breath demand on scene,” Const. Kakonyi said. A passenger in the vehicle, 21-year-old from Carrolls Corner, Billy Abolit, was pronounced dead at the scene. A third man, 22 from Elmsdale, was also a passenger. As of yet, police have not yet determined what, if any, charges will be forthcoming. The two were taken to hospital in Truro with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of a car lost control as they attempted a right-hand turn at the Shubenacadie Water Treatment Plant on Nov. 7, at 11:24 a.m. The vehicle suffered extensive damage after it collided with the fire hydrant.
Firefighters from Maitland and police responded to a report of a car fire on Highway 215, in Urbania on Nov. 7, at 11:27 a.m. The driver of the car had extinguished the fire before fire crews and police had arrived. It’s believed it was caused by an electrical issue.
RCMP are investigating a break-and-enter into a residence on Highway 236 in Upper Kennetcook on Nov. 7 at 12:26 p.m. The caller identified a man and woman as the culprits who had just broken into his home. The couple left the scene in a taxi. The matter remains under investigation.
A 20-year-old Oakfield woman reported a theft of her purse and phone from her Honda Accord on Nov. 7 at 7:18 p.m. The items were taken after her car window was smashed out. The incident took place at an Enfield Liquor establishment.
While on a regular patrol, officers spotted the front window at the Lantz Canada Post office smashed out on Nov. 8, at 2:17 a.m. They believe the incident occurred between 11 p.m. on Nov. 7, and 2 a.m. on Nov. 8. Nothing appeared to be taken.
Impatience landed a 16-year-old Nine Mile River teenager a summary offence ticket for passing on a solid yellow line. The teen was driving a Cobalt when a left-turning Cavalier collided with it along Highway 2 in Milford on Nov. 8, at 8:57 a.m. The driver of the second vehicle and the female passenger of the suspect vehicle were both transported to hospital to get checked out. Both were later released. Emergency responders from Milford, Shubenacadie, and Lantz responded to the call.
A 33-year-old Nine Mile River resident suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including a broken wrist and head trauma, as a result of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 14 in Nine Mile River on Nov. 9, at 5:20 a.m. Police say a driver heading towards Nine Mile River made an unsafe left-hand turn from Highway 214, striking a vehicle that was travelling towards Milford on Highway 14. The second person involved, a 47-year-old Upper Nine Mile River man was uninjured. Police say no charges will be laid.
The Elmsdale Petro-Canada was the target for a gas-and-go on Nov. 9, at 6:15 a.m. The driver of a large truck pumped $84.36 of fuel into the vehicle and left without paying for it.
RCMP are investigating a break, enter, and theft from a shed in the Royal Oaksway subdivision in Belnan on Nov. 9, at 9:30 a.m. Among items taken were a valued golf clubs, snow tires, snow blower, tools, chainsaw, and many other items. There was no lock left on scene, so police can’t say for sure whether the shed was locked or unlocked.
A 21-year-old Sackville man is under investigation for causing mischief and damage to property at Hants East Rural High School, in Milford on Nov. 9, at 11:49 a.m. The complainant told police the school’s soccer field was severely damaged and grass in front of the school was tore up. The matter remains under investigation.
Police are looking into reports of vehicles parked along Highway 277 in Lantz being rummaged through overnight on Nov 8-9. The incident was reported to police on Nov. 9, at 1:04 p.m.
