EAST HANTS: Enfield RCMP received 121 complaints between Jan. 31, and Feb. 16.
Police responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 102, in Milford at 7:30 a.m., on Jan. 31. Police say a vehicle slid off the road due to icy road conditions.
A 37-year-old woman found herself in the ditch after the vehicle she was driving hit an icy patch on Highway 102, near Elmsdale on Jan. 31, at 8:30 a.m.
A caller reported the theft of their Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) from a body shop in Hardwood Lands on Jan. 31 at 10:18 a.m. The vehicle had been parked at the shop since December. It was found a short time later.
RCMP received a report of shoplifting at the Sobeys in Elmsdale on Feb. 1, at 9:22 a.m. The complainant told police a woman left without paying for items on the bottom of her cart. The 26-year-old Shubenacadie woman returned and paid for the items, cooperating with store management. However, she was issued a Protection of Property Act notice banning her from the store.
Three young women are lucky to have escaped a single-vehicle rollover on Elmwood Drive in Elmsdale on Feb. 1, at 2:34 p.m. The three were two 18-year-olds, including the driver from Elmsdale, and a 17-year-old woman. Police say bad road conditions and driver inexperience were factors in the mishap.
Slippery roads played a role in a single-vehicle collision on Highway 102, in Elmsdale on Feb. 1, at 3:55 p.m. The vehicle ended up in the median. No one was injured.
An East Hants taxi driver reported they had been assaulted by a fare in Enfield on Feb. 1, at 6 p.m. The victim told police a 35-year-old Enfield man was the suspect. The matter remains under investigation.
Police are investigating an assault between a 45-year-old woman and a 17-year-old woman that is alleged to have taken place Feb. 1 at 7:20 p.m. Police determined it was a minor assault. The matter is going to be dealt with outside of court.
A gas-and-go was reported to police from the Milford Esso on Feb. 2, at 4:30 p.m. The young male driver of a navy blue hatchback left without paying for $72.30 in gas.
A caller told police there was a drunk male walking in the middle of the road on Highway 214 in Elmsdale on Feb. 4, at 12:05 a.m. Police arrested a 45-year-old Dartmouth man for intoxication. The man was hitchhiking.
Police received a report of a stolen car from a residence on Renfrew Road in Enfield on Feb. 4 at 2:31 p.m. The incident is believed to have occurred between 2:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The Chevrolet Cobalt was found completely engulfed by fire on Rocky Lake Drive in Waverley, destroying it completely. The matter remains under investigation by police.
RCMP received a report of a break-and-enter into the Milford Esso on Feb. 5, at 6:52 a.m. It appeared nothing was taken in the incident. Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
An Enfield resident reported to police their cell phone was stolen from their vehicle on Feb. 5, at 12:09 p.m. The incident took place on Lacey Anne Avenue in Enfield. A neighbour’s car was also rummaged through, the complainant reported.
Police were informed that 450 feet of rope was stolen from the Bell Aliant radio tower on Crombe Road in Shubenacadie on Feb. 6, at 8:51 a.m.
A 55-year-old Chaswood woman was given a protection of property act notice after shoplifting at Sobeys in Elmsdale on Feb. 6, at 6:11 p.m. The woman left the store when the scanners at the entrance and exit sounded. The item she was shoplifting was valued at less than $20.
Police responded to a residence on Mill Village Road in Shubenacadie on Feb. 8, after a report of an unconscious man lying on the road. It was determined a 35-year-old Indian Brook man was so intoxicated he was close to being unconscious. The man was arrested and lodged in the Enfield cells until he was sober.
RCMP received a report of a suspicious person lurking in the back area at the Elmsdale Shopping Centre on Feb. 8, at 10 p.m. An employee at Subway was taking garbage out behind the store when they saw a young man behind the garbage bin. He ran as soon as the employee spotted him. Police made a patrol but could not locate anyone. There was no description of the young man.
Police officers responded to an out-of-the-norm call on Highway 102, in Elmsdale at 12:45 p.m. on Feb. 9—a loose pig in the median. The pig—which garnered plenty of attention as Halifax media outlets reported the news on twitter—fell off the back of a truck. Enfield RCMP spokesman Const. Les Kakonyi said a local farmer used the most humane way to put the animal—which had broken its hind end as a result of the fall—down.
A caller reported four or five propane tanks and a 100 foot extension cord was stolen from a location on Venture Crescent in Elmsdale on Feb. 9 at 9:21 a.m. A hole was also cut in the chain-link fence to gain access to the items. The matter remains under investigation.
An all-terrain vehicle was reported stolen on Highway 102, in Milford on Feb. 9, at 7:55 p.m. The complainant said he was using a trail on the ATV and when he was done, he noticed his car had a flat tire. He went to get assistance, and when he returned the ATV, which he left in the woods, was gone.
A 52-year-old Lantz man suffered minor injuries in a single-vehicle collision on Poplar Drive in Lantz on Feb. 10, at 9:53 a.m. The pickup truck the man was driving landed in a ditch. EHS attended the scene and transported the man to hospital as a precaution.
Police received a report of an assault at the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz on Feb. 10, at 9:55 p.m. An 18-year-old Elmsdale man advised RCMP he was assaulted by a 17-year-old woman from Lantz. Police interviewed both the alleged victim and suspect. It appears the matter is going to be dealt without charges being pressed.
A 42-year-old Lower Sackville man was not injured in a single-vehicle collision on Highway 102 in Milford on Feb. 12, at 8:38 p.m.
RCMP and firefighters from Nine Mile River and Elmsdale responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a Chignecto-Central Regional School Board bus on Highway 14, in Upper Nine Mile River. The mishap took place on Feb. 13, at 8:24 a.m. A car ended up wedged underneath the bus after it rear-ended the bus, which had some children on board. The driver of the car, whose age and hometown were not available, suffered minor injuries. The damage to the bus appeared to be minor. Police say no charges will be forthcoming in the incident.
A disturbance was reported to police from a residence on Highway2 36 in Maitland on Feb. 14, at 3:57 p.m. Police say there was a disagreement between a 21-year-old Maitland area man and a 19-year-old Truro man. RCMP spoke to both parties, and the matter was resolved to both parties’ satisfaction.
Wood was reported missing from a residence on Edmund Road in Enfield on Feb. 14, at 5:38 p.m. The complainant said it was about a pickup truck-size load that had disappeared from his shed. The matter remains under investigation.
A 17-year-old Lower Sackville teen was arrested after police received a call of three unwanted persons at the Elmsdale Library on Feb. 15, at 1:47 p.m. The caller said the three were causing a disturbance and when asked to leave, refused to. They were then outside hanging around. Police made a patrol and located the three, arresting and charging the 17-year-old with causing a disturbance. He was released on an undertaking to stay away from the Elmsdale Library.
Police received a report of illegal dumping on the Northfield Road in East Noel on Feb. 16, at 7:32 a.m. The complainant reported someone had dumped garbage at his shale pit. He advised the garbage included receipts with names. Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
