ENFIELD: RCMP has cracked down on what a police spokesperson is calling a sophisticated marijuana grow operation in the Enfield area. On Jan. 20, Enfield RCMP announced the seizure of 258 marijuana plants from a residence along the Old Guysburough Road, in Halifax County. The seizure occurred following the execution of a search warrant on the location by police. The search was carried out by members from the East Hants Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU), with assistance from the Enfield and Lower Sackville RCMP detachments, RCMP Police dog services and the Criminal Intelligence Service of Nova Scotia (CISNS) in Halifax and Truro. Les Kakonyi, media relations officer with Enfield RCMP, said the lengthy investigation uncovered the plants, worth several thousand dollars on the street. He added the plants were at various stages of growth, noting 58 were fully matured. “It certainly wasn’t for personal use,” Const. Kakonyi said. “The majority of the plants were very mature.” He noted to put a dollar figure on how much of the drug they seized is hard to do. “With the varying degrees of the plants, it’s hard to put a number on their value,” he added. “It was a significant seizure that’s for sure.” phealey@enfieldweeklypress.com
