EAST HANTS: Enfield RCMP responded to 136 complaints between Feb. 18 and March 4. - RCMP received a report of an impaired driver Feb. 18, at 5:50 p.m., along Highway 2, in Elmsdale. The caller reported a black Jetta had gone through a number of red lights and the driver might be intoxicated. Police located the suspect vehicle; however the driver showed no sign of impairment. - Police received a report of mischief along the Highway 102 overpass, in Elmsdale, Feb. 19, at 2:08 p.m. The caller reported several youth were throwing snow at oncoming vehicles. Police made a patrol but the suspects were not located. - RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision at Cheesefactory Corner, in Upper Nine Mile River, Feb. 21, at 1:50 a.m. When police arrived, they located a grey Saturn in the ditch, however the driver was no where to be found. Upon further investigation police discovered the driver had been driving without any insurance. A ticket was issued for the offence. - A number of thefts had police scratching their heads during the past seven days. Four thefts saw civic address signs go missing from residences on Poplar Grove Drive, two along Highway 2 and one on Highway 214, in Elmsdale. “It seems someone has a fatuation with civic numbers,” Sgt. Chris Bewsher said. - RCMP responded to an attempted break-and-enter at a garage in Hardwood Lands on Feb. 22, at 3:09 p.m. The matter remains under investigation. - Police responded to a two-vehicle collision Feb. 23, at 10 a.m., at the Canada Post outlet, in Enfield. RCMP report a 2008 blue Silverado collided with a local taxi van. No one in either vehicle suffered injury in the mishap. Police say no charges will be laid in the matter. - RCMP received a 911 complaint about a potential impaired driver from a business along Highway 214, in Elmsdale on Feb. 25 at 10:25 p.m. The caller told police two people had dropped empty liquor bottles into the business’s garbage bin before continuing on their way. The complainant thought the driver might be impaired. Police located the suspect vehicle, but the driver didn’t have signs of impairment. - RCMP received a report of theft from a vehicle from a residence on Shamrock Lane in Enfield on Feb. 25, at 5:51 p.m. The caller reported a red pocket knife and other items had been taken. Police received a call a short time later from the complainant informing them the red pocket knife had been recovered. - A briefcase with a wallet containing cash and credit cards was stolen from a vehicle parked at a liquor establishment in Enfield on Feb. 26, at 2:38 a.m. The complainant reported the back window of their SUV was broken and the briefcase, located on the floor behind the driver’s seat, was missing. Police suspect the individual(s) responsible had seen the victim place the wallet in the briefcase. The matter remains under investigation. - RCMP responded to a break, enter and theft at a residence on Highway 354, in Kennetcook on Feb. 26, at 9:39 a.m. The caller reported a shed on their property had been broken into and an Artic Cat snowmobile was stolen. Police are continuing their investigation into the matter. - A two-vehicle collision in the parking lot of the Elmsdale Shopping Centre sent police racing to the scene Feb. 26, at 12:07 p.m. The incident caused minor damage and no injuries resulted. Police say inattention on the part of the second vehicle’s driver as the cause of the mishap. - A resident on Tannery Drive, in Elmsdale, called police to report their civic number sign had been stolen Feb. 26, at 8:30 p.m. The complainant called police back to report she found the civic number when she was out for a walk. - An adult male driver thought he would ignore officers at a road checkpoint in Elmsdale on Feb. 28, at 4:17 a.m., and continue on through. After a short pursuit police located the vehicle with two male occupants. Officers arrested the driver and have charged him with driving while his license is suspended and also issued a summary offence ticket. The second male was released. - Police are investigating a mischief complaint after receiving a report March 1, at 8:08 a.m., of someone cutting through a chain link fence at a business in Elmsdale. Reported stolen was a gas cylinder. The investigation into the matter is ongoing. - RCMP are investigating the use of fraudulent cheques after receiving a complaint March 1, at 12:34 p.m., from a banking institution in Elmsdale. - Police received a report of mischief from a Lantz area, March 2, at 2 p.m. The complainant reported that the Canadian Red Cross bin and front of the adjacent building had been spray painted. - RCMP are investigating the theft of a purse from inside a home on Highway 214, in Elmsdale that occurred March 3. It was reported to police at 11:32 a.m. The complainant informed police they may know who took the purse, which contained the person’s wallet. - A suspicious person report came into police on March 3, at 7:30 p.m. The caller told police someone had tried to gain entry to their residence. Police made a patrol and did notice that someone had attempted to kick in the front door and foot prints in the snow. The matter remains under investigation.
