Wildcats victorious in tournament

ENFIELD: The East Hants Mosquito AA Wildcats have yet another piece of tournament hardware to add to their collection this season.

The Wildcats came out victorious in an eight-team tournament held July 23-25.

East Hants earned wins of 13-6 over Humber Park on July 23, before racking up 13-3 and 8-3 wins over Truro and Middleton, respectively. That left them at 3-0 and put them in a crossover game against Woodlawn. The Wildcats won that game 6-2, punching their ticket to the final against Halifax.

In the championship, Justin Gilice threw the remaining pitches, before turning things over to Nick Trainor, Shaun Miller and Sam Fougere to close out the 9-7 win.

Gilice pitched the crossover, sitting down many of the Woodlawn hitters thanks to his knuckle ball.

Over the weekend, the team’s top hitters included Megan Wheaton with her first two RBI’s of the season. Also hitting solid at the dish were Matthew Turner, Ryan MacNeil and Chad Nemis.

The Wildcats are hosting the Mosquito A provincial championship Aug. 20-22 at the Enfield Legion.
